The mandate was originally put into place via executive order in Jan. 2021.

One of the first executive orders signed by President Joe Biden included a mandate requiring masks to be worn in airports on commercial aircraft and more.

TSA announced that travelers who violate the mask mandate could be fined $500 for the first offense.

Fines will now be $500 to $1,000 for the first offense and $1,000 to $3,000 for the second offense.
