Wondering where travelers are headed this fall?

Insurance company IMG (International Medical Group) reviewed the itineraries of almost 40,000 of its travelers to figure out which trends are most prominent over the months of September, October and November.

As far as where people are traveling, Mexico appears to take the spotlight as the top international destination. Following closely behind are Aruba, Bahamas and the Dominican Republic, which means jet setters are focusing on warm weather locals as they anticipate temperatures dropping.

“Mexico is an incredibly popular destination for travelers throughout the entire year, and it’s no surprise that many people are wanting to escape somewhere warm and tropical like Aruba and the Bahamas as fall and winter approach,” said Grant Hayes, IMG Director of International Sales – Travel.

Italy snagged a spot again this year, but while it was number one last fall, it comes in at number three this year. The top five destinations for travel in fall of 2022 were Italy, Mexico, Canada, Brazil and Spain.

The length of travelers’ vacations has increased this fall compared to last year – the average length for trips this fall is nine days. Spending has also increased for IMG travelers, as the insurance company is seeing a 47% increase in trip cost compared to last year. In addition, IMG is seeing a 34% increase in travelers purchasing a travel protection plan.

“A combination of longer trips and increased trip costs has led to more travelers seeking out travel insurance to protect their trip and investment,” said Amanda Winkle, IMG Chief Operating Officer.
