Think back to the days before you were the savvy travel pro you are today – do you remember what inspired you to become an agent? These agents do! Read on to see the journeys your peers have taken to get where they are today.

“I believe you are far better at helping clients if you love what you do. Looking for a life change, six years ago I wrote a list of things in life which I love to do. On the other side of the page, I listed possible ways to make a living for each listing. About the same time I was at a Jimmy Buffet concert, and marveled at the sight of him performing on stage barefooted. ‘I wish I had a job where I could work barefooted,’ I thought. Not long after, a new career was spawned. Six years and over 1,000 clients later, I truly love working every day…helping my guests plan their dream vacations. Sometimes I even wear shoes.”
Jeff L., Barefoot Vacations – Nebraska

“I am from a small town in West Virginia and didn't travel much as a child except for a local theme park or state park. I was afraid to fly and never dreamed of a career such as this. My best friend and travel agent alerted me of a job selling airline tickets so I applied and got the job. That started my career in leisure travel. I am now 23 years in and I've visited destinations all throughout the Caribbean, Canadian Rockies, Alaska and Europe! I am no longer scared to fly. I actually enjoy the rest and excitement of flying and wheels down!”
Judith J., AAA Carolinas – South Carolina

“Wow, where do I begin? For as far back as I can remember, I've always loved to travel. My mom put the bug in me to travel. Five years ago, a friend sparked the desire in me to become an agent, and three years ago, it became a reality. I haven't looked back since. It's always new and fresh, and I have to say that VAX made me appreciate this journey most. The ease of the booking platform, creating quotes and sales emails, and even training, has been invaluable to me. Thank you for making my job easy and enjoyable!”
Cheryl H., Archer Travel Service c/o Cherie's World – Tennessee

“From the time I was a child I always wanted to be involved with the travel industry. After I was married, I attended a local travel school and became a front line agent. My career has taken me front line agent to manager, owner of a store front agency, and now homebased focusing on romance travel. In my 30 years in the industry, I have seen a lot of change, but one thing stays the same, my love of travel and this great industry.”
Lisa S., I Do Island Weddings & Honeymoons – Wisconsin

“I wanted to go to college to become a journalist. A friend I worked with was a travel agent for a local corporation and I thought that sounded fun! I attended a 2 year college and got my associates degree in travel and tourism. I have worked for 3 different companies, totaling 28 years. I book mostly leisure but still do some corporate bookings as well.”
Amy S., Central Travel – Ohio
