Memorial Day 2021 is sure to see a lot of travel. So where are people going? Here are the top five destinations travel advisors are shopping for Memorial Day travel.

  1. Cancun, Mexico

It’s so easy to get to Cancun from many airports around the U.S., so it’s no surprise that it’s this year’s top destination for Memorial Day. Add on to that the countless resort options, from affordable to ultra-luxurious, and any traveler can find the right option for them.

But heads up – Quintana Roo has a new tourism tax that all international travelers over 15 years old are required to pay. It’s about $10 and can be paid electronically before you go, at the airport or upon exiting the state, so it’s easy to take care of.

Travel advisors are shopping Now Sapphire Riviera Cancun, Secrets the Vine Cancun and Sunscape Akumal Beach Resort & Spa for their Memorial Day travelers.

  2. Las Vegas, Nevada

Sin City, here they come. Las Vegas is the perfect destination for a long weekend, especially if you’re looking to kick off to summer. We all know there’s tons of fun for adults to enjoy, like the exciting culinary scene and endless options to treat yourself, but Las Vegas is also kid- and pet-friendly. In fact, many hotels openly welcome dogs and make their stays comfortable with welcome boxes, special treats and outside areas just for them.

Travelers looking to get outdoors have lots of options in Las Vegas, too. The West Rim of the Grand Canyon is about 2 ½ hours away by car and there are plenty of other options to get outside like Red Rock Canyon National Conservation Area, Blue Diamond Hill, the gorgeous Mt. Charleston and state parks like Valley of Fire State Park.

For hotels, travel advisors are considering MGM Grand Hotel & Casino, Luxor Hotel and Casino and The Venetian Resort Las Vegas.

  3. Orlando, Florida

Family fun is on order for Memorial Day 2021. And with all of Orlando’s major theme parks now open, families will flock to this vacation mainstay.

Universal Studios Florida, Universal’s Islands of Adventure, Universal’s Volcano Bay and Universal CityWalk are now all reopened, and SeaWorld Orlando and Discovery Cove have reopened, too. The destination of Orlando has worked diligently to promote healthy travel and has compiled a list of even more theme parks, attractions, restaurants and more that are now welcoming visitors and making it safe and comfortable for them. Pets are very welcome in Orlando, too.

When looking for places to stay, Universal’s Endless Summer Resort – Dockside Inn and Suites, Universal’s Cabana Bay Beach Resort and Loews Royal Pacific Resort are all travel advisor favorites.

  4. Miami, Florida

Night life or beach life – Miami doesn’t make you choose, making it yet another great choice for an extended weekend.

Miami has put in a lot of effort recently to showcase the other sides of the city. The arts go way beyond the Art Deco architecture, the food scene is piping hot and full of famous chefs and the neighborhoods are eclectic and incredibly interesting.

The hotels travel advisors are looking at for Memorial Day include Cadillac Hotel & Beach Club, Riu Plaza Miami Beach and Fontainebleau Miami Beach.

  5. San Juan, Puerto Rico

The capital of Puerto Rico is just a 2 ½- hour flight from Miami, and many airlines fly there from the mainland U.S. Though San Juan – and Puerto Rico – may be small, they both pack in a lot of activities. Beaches, a rainforest, a robust cocktail scene, authentic island cuisine, shopping, art and history will make for a very full Memorial Day weekend (or longer).

Travelers should be aware of the island’s updated entry requirements. All travelers arriving in Puerto Rico – except those fully vaccinated for COVID-19 – must present proof of a negative COVID-19 test in order to gain entry. Returning to the mainland U.S. is a bit easier, as U.S. citizens going back to the mainland U.S. do not need to provide a negative COVID test result to return home.

Travel advisors are considering Fairmont El San Juan Hotel, Royal Sonesta San Juan and San Juan Marriott Resort & Stellaris Casino for their Memorial Day travelers.
