The warm weather and sunshine of months like March and April may seem far off, especially as the fall chill begins to settle in, but planning a spring break getaway is already at the forefront of some travelers’ minds. Searches for “spring break 2025” and “spring break destinations” have made frequent appearances on Google Trends, and considering its prime time for families, students and solo travelers alike, it’s no surprise visitors are trying to snag early bird discounts. Read on for some tips and tricks to navigate spring break 2025.

Helpful Advice

In the U.S., the peak of spring break typically falls around mid-to-late March, with some schools trickling into early April. For travelers with flexible schedules, it’s best to make plans before or after this window, as prices notoriously jump, and the popular beach destinations are jam-packed with revelers of all ages.

Additionally, teenagers and young adults heavily gravitate towards destinations such as Nassau, Cancún, Los Cabos, Puerto Vallarta, Punta Cana and Miami. In fact, the Bahamas Ministry of Tourism reported that over 200,000 U.S. young adult citizens travel to the island country each year during the spring break period. And, with companies such as STS Travel promoting all-inclusive packages to these popular destinations for college-aged students, vacationers would be wise to avoid these areas to save some money and beat the crowds.

However, if travelers are inclined to visit these fan favorite destinations, it’s important to be aware of the potential price increases. A Forbes article identified that hotel rates jump 20 to 30% during spring break, and Investopedia recommends booking flights at least 44 days in advance, if not more, to capitalize on airfare deals. Travelers should also keep an eye out for charges imposed by the destination, like Miami did last year. In an effort to deter rowdy crowds from wreaking havoc on their streets, the city banned short-term rentals, doubled towing prices, increased parking fees and closed off available lots. While other hotspot locations have yet to crack down on the spring break shenanigans, if travelers are still choosing to vacation there, it’s important to be aware of those potential charges and understand that it comes with the territory.

Getting to the spring break destination is another component to consider, and one that could potentially save some big bucks. For some, driving might be a cheaper alternative to flying and allows for travelers to arrive and depart on their own time. Though if flying is the only choice, visitors should consider booking a red eye, departing mid-week or finding two one-way tickets on separate airlines to keep the trip within budget.

Underrated Destinations

International

As noted by Skift and other travel groups, European destinations are climbing the ranks in popularity for spring break. Croatia, while highly sought after in the summertime, is perfect for March and April as it’s not quite peak season, and prices are much more reasonable. The weather, though not conducive for swimming, is also pleasant during these months. The country is rich with history and stunning sights, so there’s plenty for travelers to do, and by night, the major cities come alive with all-nighter parties to satiate the wild vibe of spring break. Malta is another excellent European option, as it is not peak season here either. The weather is warm and makes it an ideal spot for those relaxing beachy vibes.

To truly emulate the spring break atmosphere, Fiji is another great contender in place of Mexico, the Dominican Republic and Jamaica. The country is all white sand, crystal waters and sunshine, a perfect dupe of other popular destinations. March and April also fall within Fiji’s low season, meaning travelers here will have no issues with large crowds and hefty price tags.

Domestic

For the spring breakers who want to stay within the states, Jekyll Island, Georgia, is a great place for relaxation. The weather is mildly warm during this time of year, and there are plenty of beaches, golf courses and historic landmarks to explore. While the island doesn’t have a reputation for a rowdy nightlife atmosphere, its chic bars and restaurants offer a more laid-back party vibe.

Similarly, Santa Barbara, California, is another alternative to busy U.S. destinations. It’s early enough that the summer crowds haven’t settled in, though the weather does remain a little cooler. However, as a bustling city, a trip to Santa Barbara is highly customizable, and travelers can choose to make it as adventurous or rejuvenating as they want. If visitors truly want the sun-kissed spring break environment, Anna Maria Island, Florida, is one worth considering. This destination will certainly see a spike in tourists during the months of March and April, though not nearly as great as other Florida beaches.
