Traveling by air or by sea, the Mediterranean overall is a hotspot for leisure travel, and Venice is a perennial favorite. The city’s canals are a huge draw for travelers, as there is really nothing else like it in the world.

As of late, Venice has been taking big strides to protect the city from the tourism boom, including banning cruise ships that weigh more than 100,000 tons from entering the Grand Canal and adding turnstiles to the most crowded tourist areas to restrict the movement of visitors. And coming in September 2019, day-trippers will pay up to $11 to enter the city.

All that aside, Venice is still a bucket-list destination. Here are five Venetian hotels the agents on VAX are looking at for their clients.

  1. Hilton Molino Stucky Venice

    Hilton Molino Stucky Venice

Once home to a flour mill and granary, the Hilton Molino Stucky Venice is in a beautifully restored building just a short ride from St. Mark’s Square, one of the world’s most famous squares and the number-one tourist destination in Venice. The hotel offers incredible views of the city of Venice and its lagoon, most notably from the panoramic rooftop pool and the Skyline Rooftop Bar.

  2. Hotel Canal Grande

    Hotel Canal Grande

This boutique hotel sits right on the water, offering a truly unique Venetian experience. Guests praise the staff’s service, welcoming guests warmly and going above and beyond to accommodate them in the 15-room hotel. The authentic character of the hotel is true to the area’s history, but it does offer plenty of modern amenities like complimentary Wi-Fi, laptop-compatible desks and 24-hour room service.

  3. Kette Hotel

    Kette Hotel

It’s all about location for the Kette Hotel, which is what visitors love the most about it. You’ll be just steps from the Grand Canal and La Fenice Opera House, plus less than a quarter mile from St. Mark’s Square. Complimentary buffet breakfast, wireless Internet access and minibars in the rooms make for a more than comfortable stay.

  4. Hotel Papadopoli Venezia Mgallery

    Hotel Papadopoli Venezia Mgallery

This hotel is a bit bigger than the others on this list, with 96 rooms and suites. The elegant 18th-century décor will take you back in time, especially if you embark on a romantic gondola excursion offered by the hotel itself. With views of the Tolentini Canal and Papadopoli Gardens, it’s easy to see why this hotel is popular among agents and their travelers.

  5. Boscolo Venezia, Autograph Collection

    Boscolo Venezia, Autograph Collection

You can’t get more Venice than the The Boscolo Venezia, Autograph Collection, whose name is actually now Grand Hotel Dei Dogi. It’s the only hotel in Venice with a secret garden (perfectly preserved), and even better – it faces the lagoon. The location is not as centralized as others on this list, but that just adds to the authenticity. An on-site spa, on-site restaurant and Wi-Fi give you everything you need.
