In August 2020, ALG Vacations hosted a few lucky travel advisors on familiarization (FAM) trips to Cancun to share what the new world of travel looks like. Here is the story of Jodie Sontag, owner of Wishing on a Star Travel, LLC. Read, share and get inspired to travel again!

How was your airport experience in-destination?

Overall, the experience was great! The airport was very clean, seating was spaced appropriately, plenty of hand sanitizing stations were available and airport staff seemed to work to keep people moving, yet apart, as much as possible.

How was your transfer experience in-destination?

We used Amstar and had a private shuttle, which was nice as we didn’t have to share with anyone. We felt safe in the manner since it was only our party in the shuttle. The shuttle was clean, hand sanitizer was available and we had no issues.

What resorts did you visit?

Now Sapphire, El Dorado Royale, Royalton Riviera Cancun, Iberostar Cancun, Fiesta Americana Condesa, Dreams Vista Cancun, Riu Dunamar, Grand Palladium and TRS Coral, Barcelo Maya Riviera and Breathless Riviera Cancun.

What is your main takeaway in regards to safety and health from visiting the resort(s)?

Each resort we visited went above and beyond to make us feel safe. There were social distancing markers in public areas, hand sanitizing stations, elevator use was a maximum of four people at a time, lounge chairs at the pools were spaced appropriately and areas were being actively cleaned as we toured and resorts are limiting in-room contact with guests. It was great to see the extent they were going to in order to keep facilities clean for their guests.

What do you think is the most important thing to share with travelers about your experience?

Traveling now is possible and it can be done safely. There are plenty of protocols in place at our destinations that will make your travel not only enjoyable, but safe. With the reduced capacity at resorts, it is possible to have a great vacation experience and not be overwhelmed with people.

Would you visit Mexico again this year?

Absolutely! The low crowd capacity makes it the perfect time to visit! With all the sanitizing and safety protocols in place, I felt safer there than I do at home. I would absolutely go back and more importantly, I am confident in sending clients to Mexico at this time.
