In accordance with the recently issued Regional Stay at Home Order in California, SeaWorld San Diego will be temporarily closing, as of Monday, Dec. 7, 2020. The closure will remain in effect until zoos in southern California reopen.
In an update on their consumer website, SeaWorld said “our veterinarians and animal care experts will continue to provide the animals that call SeaWorld San Diego home the same high level of care. Our animal rescue and rehabilitation operations will also continue to conduct their important work that is a hallmark of our company.” Though the park is closed to visitors, the animals will still be cared for.
SeaWorld is allowing anyone with tickets and/or reservations, including for animal encounters, for the time the park is closed to reschedule their visits when the park reopens. They’ll be able to reschedule for any date through 2021.
SeaWorld San Diego’s reopening date is unknown, as it’s reliant on California’s decision to reopen zoos, which SeaWorld San Diego is currently classified as. When SeaWorld reopens, they will “continue to operate with enhanced health and safety protocols for cleaning and sanitizing, physical distancing, face covering requirements, and temperature screenings. In addition to enhancing the park’s already strict health and safety measures, capacity will remain significantly limited,” according to their website.
