The 2021 Gay Travel Award winners are in and the island of Oahu took the title of Best Family Destination.

Gaytravel.com loves the destinations of Hawaii and specifically Oahu not only because they are safe and welcoming destinations to gay travelers, but because there is so much to do, especially for families. Gaytravel.com recommends hiking the two mountain ranges, Ko'olau and Waianae; visiting the smaller beach towns scattered throughout the island for a funky, laid-back atmosphere; and renting a car to drive through the pineapple fields, to secluded white sand beaches, and amidst the gorgeous mountainous scenery away from the city.

According to gaytravel.com, the Hawaiian Islands have enjoyed an upswing in LGBTQ+ tourism since the December 2013 passing of the Hawaii Marriage Equality Act, and Oahu has transformed into a burgeoning and vibrant destination for gay travelers.

The Gay Travel Awards support and promote LGBTQ+ travel and tourism by identifying and rewarding select destinations, properties, events, influencers, and other organizations that exemplify a spirit of inclusiveness and hospitality excellence.

"This year has been another challenging one for travelers. With the pandemic ebbing and flowing across the globe and the uncertainty related to the latest Omicron variant, many are restricted from traveling or waiting for a safer time. The Gay Travel Awards affords us all a moment to focus on the industry’s best as a prologue to getting back out there safely,” said GayTravel Chief Visionary Officer Steve Rohrlick.
