After dropping all COVID-19-related travel restrictions on August 24th, 2022, The Cayman Islands are opening their metaphorical doors to more travelers. And what better timing as Cayman Airways Ltd. recently announced its plans to offer nonstop service from Los Angeles International Airport (LAX) to Owen Roberts International Airport (ORIA) in Grand Cayman beginning on November 6th, 2022. The service will start at an introductory rate of $399 USD and will act as the Caribbean’s only direct flight from the west coast (clocking in at just under five hours and 30 minutes), expanding upon Cayman’s western accessibility.
The Cayman Islands Department of Tourism points out that this new flight route will play an essential role as the region, and the travel industry, continues to bounce back from the challenges it’s faced over the past few years. And, as no pre-arrival testing or proof of vaccination is required for travelers and their children, there are hopes that the new flight will help to stimulate stayover visitation within the iconic destination.
“It has been a long-time goal to connect the Cayman Islands with our friends on the west coast, and now that we have the ability to operate long-haul flights via our national flag carrier, we are eager to showcase all that we have to offer,” said Hon. Minister for Tourism and Transport, Kenneth V. Bryan. “With our world-renowned beaches, five-star resorts, charming boutique villas, exceptional adventure and attractions and globally renowned culinary scene – we are confident that travelers visiting us from California will find all they have dreamed about in Cayman.”

So, what can Californians (and potential travelers throughout the U.S.) look forward to in this tropical paradise? The Cayman Islands allow visitors to choose their own adventure with seemingly endless opportunities for fun, rest and relaxation. Often referred to as the ‘Culinary Capital of the Caribbean’, foodies will find no shortage of world-class eateries and trendy bars serving up craft cocktails and locally sourced dishes. The Cayman Islands are also a hotspot for outdoor adventures with unique experiences like animal encounters at the Cayman Turtle Center, Stingray City and 365 dive sites for swimmers and snorkelers to enjoy. And if all that isn’t enough to have travelers reaching for their suitcases, perhaps the Cayman Islands’ status as one of the world’s top destinations for luxury amenities and dreamy spa services will put them over the edge.
“Discerning Californians seeking a beautiful and serene beach destination have long been drawn to the Cayman Islands and its convenient Western Caribbean location, representing more than 4% of our annualstayover visitors from the U.S.,” said Rosa Harris, director of tourism for the Cayman Islands. “We are thrilled that our national flag carrier Cayman Airways is making it even easier for west coast travelers to discover our renowned beaches, legendary dive waters, world-class restaurants and welcoming community.”
