My husband and I have taken a few vacations to some wonderful destinations before, but this last one at Secrets Vallarta Bay in Puerto Vallarta was different. Perhaps because we were celebrating a memorable anniversary, this was the first time he turned to me and said we should do a couples spa experience. After picking my jaw up off the floor, I immediately started looking at our options! This is one of the newer sides of my wonderful husband; he doesn’t want things, he wants experiences and memories. I adore this new side of him.

We landed on the Enchanted Spa Package which included the hydrotherapy circuit, followed by a 50-minute couples massage as well as a wine pairing dinner at either Capers (Italian) or Bordeaux (French). This was a special offer that was listed on the daily events newsletter available to the guests.

We started with the hydrotherapy circuit which included 10 minutes in the steam room, followed by 10 minutes in the sauna. We were met with cucumber water and escorted to the pool. This next portion of the circuit was so interesting. There were seven stations that we split time in to really get everything loose and relaxed. First was the jacuzzi portion that we both felt we had to hold on to not float away, but really enjoyed. Next were the lower-back jets, the shoulder jets, the upper-back jets and the feet and leg massagers. It all felt so fantastic! The next time I would make sure I was wearing a suit that didn’t have a skirt or flowy top to hinder the flow of the jets; one of my takeaways. We then moved to the hot tub and that was followed by the cold pool dip. The cold pool dip was quite startling and for someone that typically must inch their way into the water, this was a challenge. I did it, but I focused on the dip and out – wow! More cucumber water was delivered to us and we briefly sat to wait for our massage.

The massage room was filled with lavender and calming sounds and set the mood so wonderfully. I’m not sure what more to say about this other than it was amazing to feel the fully body massage, the soothing oils and the relaxing lavender fill my senses for an amazing relaxing and rejuvenating retreat. It was incredible and all the while I kept thinking, “I can’t believe he suggested this!”

The final portion of our package was dinner, and we chose the Italian restaurant Capers. It was a six-course meal in the wine cellar designed deliciously by the chef and we had five different wine pairings for the meal. Everything was delectable and the wines really did pair so scrumptiously. We did find by the end of the meal that we wished we had left portions of each course undevoured, because it was a dubious task to muster a few bites of dessert.

This being my first resort spa experience, I will absolutely try to schedule this for every getaway we have in the future. It truly was a necessary splurge with long-lasting unbelievable results.
