Karisma Hotel & Resorts is an ever-expanding brand that warrants your attention. With a diverse range of family-friendly resorts and adults-only properties, this gourmet-inclusive brand promises an array of experiences that are bound to delight any traveler.

From the playful Nickelodeon Hotels & Resorts, designed to captivate kids and nurture your inner child's nostalgia, to the relaxed and laid-back atmosphere of Margaritaville by Karisma Resorts, it's easy to be smitten with the brand. However, the challenge lies in discerning which resort aligns best with your preferences.

As a seasoned travel agent, one of my foremost inquiries when tailoring travel options for clients is, "What type of experience are you seeking?" Whether my clients are honeymooners, couples, groups or families, this pivotal question aids in identifying resorts that suit them even before considering budget constraints or other amenities. At times, the responses are so varied that further exploration is required to unearth their true desires.

Conversely, some clients provide spot-on answers, simplifying the process of narrowing down their options. These factors are essential in selecting a Karisma brand resort. Although some of the resort names appear similar and are present in various locations, the experiences they offer can differ significantly.

In this article, we will focus on Margaritaville by Karisma Resorts, with six properties currently in operation and more on the horizon:

  • Margaritaville Beach Resort Riviera Maya (newest)
  • Margaritaville Beach Resort Riviera Cancun
  • Margaritaville St. Somewhere (Holbox)
  • Margaritaville Beach Resort Cap Cana Hammock
  • Margaritaville Beach Resort Cap Cana Wave
  • Margaritaville Beach Resort (Belize)

I have personally experienced four out of these six resorts, and I can attest that each exudes a unique ambiance. Consequently, understanding the experience you seek will significantly influence your choice.

While most Karisma properties are all-inclusive, Margaritaville St. Somewhere in Holbox and Margaritaville Beach Resort in Belize exclusively offer European Plans. These two resorts, boasting no more than 55 suites each, are family-friendly and offer a more exclusive setting for travelers who crave immersion in local culture.

Presently, there are two Margaritaville Beach Resorts in Mexico and two in the Dominican Republic. The two Mexican properties (Margaritaville Beach Resort Riviera Maya & Margaritaville Beach Resort Cancun) stand as separate entities.

In contrast, the Dominican Republic hosts Margaritaville Beach Resort Cap Cana Hammock and Margaritaville Beach Resort Wave adjacently. Here, family and adults-only guests may interact at shared restaurants and entertainment venues along the strip. However, if you opt for the adults-only side (Hammock), you'll enjoy exclusive restaurants and activities where children are not permitted.

With that distinction in mind, let's delve into the differences among these four properties, starting with Margaritaville Beach Resort Riviera Maya in Mexico.

Margaritaville Beach Resort Riviera Maya, Karisma's newest adults-only resort in Mexico, boasts over 300 suites. Its setup fosters an intimate, boutique-like ambiance, with everything in close proximity and elevators throughout the property. The resort's zero-entry pools and ramps cater to guests with mobility concerns. While this was a plus for me, it is worth noting that the sandy beach area is limited, making it less suitable for avid beachgoers. However, there are plans to rectify this in the future.

In contrast, Margaritaville Beach Resort Riviera Cancun is a family-friendly resort with an adults-only section. Despite its smaller suite count (less than 200), the property is more sprawling, giving it the feel of a much larger resort. Activities here range from lively to leisurely, with unique experiences like blender bike rides (workout and reward yourself with a refreshing Margarita) and pop-up Mariachi bands. The resort also offers ample beach space, complete with Bali beds for ocean-view relaxation.

Transitioning to the Dominican Republic, we encounter Margaritaville Beach Resort Cap Cana Hammock and Wave. Hammock caters to adults only, while Wave welcomes families. Aside from a few shared restaurants, entertainment venues and the stunning Juanillo Beach, each side has its own main pools, pool parties and tailored activities. These properties are ideal for those seeking more than just relaxation, as they offer higher occupancy with over 500 suites and various accommodation options. More people mean more engaging opportunities.

While all properties feature floating taco bars, the floating Margarita Bar is exclusive to Margaritaville Beach Resorts in Cap Cana at present. Additionally, only the Cap Cana properties and Margaritaville Beach Resort Riviera Maya have on-site breweries, adding another layer of uniqueness to their offerings. When traveling in a group, the Villas at either the Cap Cana property or at Riviera Maya provide an opportunity for a more exclusive experience.

So, the ultimate question isn't whether the Karisma brand suits you; rather, it's about pinpointing which of their properties aligns best with your preferences and desires.
