Earlier this year, the new Hyatt Vivid Grand Island debuted in Cancun. The adults-only 400-suite property is located near the Nichupté Lagoon, just 15 minutes from the Cancun International Airport, and offers a relaxing vibe for laidback travelers.

“The debut of Hyatt Vivid Grand Island represents an exciting new chapter in the Inclusive Collection’s story,” said Melanie Benozich, Hyatt’s associate vice president, marketing & global branding. “The Hyatt Vivid brand allows Hyatt to continue to excite our existing guests and members on more occasions while also introducing the all-inclusive concept to new travelers who prefer a casual atmosphere.”

I got the chance to experience this new resort before attending ALG Vacations’ Ascend conference, and I’m sharing all the details with you here.

The Vibe

During a tour, Christian Porcayo, the resort’s social media manager, described the property as “lowkey but lively,” and this was definitely the case. The casual, down-to-earth atmosphere is present throughout the pool areas and restaurants. The brand is targeting Gen Z travelers (ages 21 – 39), and I saw a mix of this age range as well as a few older visitors enjoying their stay.

The engaging activities are not exactly what you’d see at other resorts – they’re intentional and provide a sense of creativity. Among the offerings are instructor-led painting, poetry, macrame and Spanish classes. In the evening, guests are treated to relaxing bonfires, golden hour parties and live music.

How I Felt

Welcomed. From the moment I arrived and all throughout the stay, I felt welcomed and at ease. The resort staff members were warm and helpful and always willing to go out of their way to lend a hand. Our group was able to participate in some of the wellness activities, including yoga classes and sound healing, which was very relaxing.

The Digs

Modern, spacious and minimalistic is how I would describe the guestroom I stayed in. The rooms were clean and comfortable, and guests are either treated to a view of a golf course or the bay. Anyone looking to elevate their stay can choose to book in the Vantage Club, which includes upgraded services and amenities and access to an exclusive lounge area.

The Agenda

Whether travelers want to fill their day with activities or plop themselves near the pool for the day, this resort can make it happen. From aquacycling and water volleyball to line dancing and bingo, the pool can be an exciting place to spend the day. Mix in cocktail classes and bracelet crafting, and it’s a full itinerary.

Some of the highlights of my stay included yoga classes and sound healing. Our group also spent some time checking out the Ennea Beach Club, which is a 10-minute shuttle ride away from the resort. The beachfront area has loungers and Bali beds, beverage service, an additional pool and a restaurant with delicious poke nachos, among other tasty bites.

The Eats

In addition to those yummy poke nachos at the beach club, there are several other highlights when it comes to the eats. I don’t usually point out a buffet, but the Galeria International Café had a variety of healthy menu items such as fresh yogurt and fruit with a mix of seeds and nuts to choose from and omelet stations. Oishii, the restaurant located on the rooftop, is a must for dinner if you like Japanese cuisine. We were able to taste several items on the menu, and there wasn’t anything I didn’t like. Vivid Bites was also a fun option – it’s a food truck near the pool with fresh fish tacos, salads, hamburgers and more.

When it comes to the drinks, there are a variety of bars and lounges to enjoy, but for an extra special memory, guests can create a “Moët Moment,” by stopping at the champagne vending machine – yes you read that right – and snagging a bottle to enjoy.

Why I Would Go Back

I’m not sure I can pinpoint just one thing, but I will certainly return for another visit. The service was amazing; the food was delicious, and the property was easy to navigate. I loved the overall laidback atmosphere and activity offerings. During my stay here, I realized that being on the beach is not always necessary for me, but it’s important to note for you and your clients that this resort is not directly on the beach. Instead, guests can take the shuttle to enjoy the Ennea Beach Club if they want their toes in the sand.
