The season of love is around the corner, and Americans are looking to celebrate. Perhaps the perfect winter reprieve, a recent Allianz Partners USA Valentine’s Day destinations report noted that holiday related travel demands are up 15% overall from 2023.
After reviewing over 900,000 itineraries for the first few weeks of February, sunny destinations are the undeniable preference. Including both domestic and international destinations, here’s where Americans are booking their romantic getaways this year.
US Destinations
Allianz data shows a whopping 70% of Americans are planning domestic trips with the typical sunshine states making an appearance. Florida takes the cake with the top three cities awarded to Orlando, Miami and Fort Lauderdale.
Toasty Phoenix, Arizona and Las Vegas, Nevada rank fourth and fifth, with New Orleans making its debut on the list at sixth. Rounding it out, lovebird travelers are also booking flights to Salt Lake City (seven), Honolulu (eight), Fort Myers (nine) and Los Angeles (ten).
International Destinations
While the majority of Americans are choosing to stay in the States this endearing holiday, other travelers are looking to take their love overseas. Already a fan-favorite destination, Mexico secures the first three international city slots, with Cancun, San Jose del Cabo and Puerto Vallarta coming out on top.
Punta Cana and Oranjestad sit at fourth and fifth with other warm stops in Jamaica, U.S. Virgin Islands, Costa Rica and the Bahamas finishing off the international roster.
For Daniel Durazo, director of external communications at Allianz Partners, this Valentine’s Day travel trend for balmy destinations is to be expected. “It’s no surprise that after the holiday season, couples and ‘galentines’ are ready to leave the cold weather behind and take flight to palm-fringed beaches,” said Durazo. “What better way to celebrate love than with a trip away from the regular everyday routine.”
