Try not to wait until January to make a healthy fitness resolution. Once the weather starts getting rainier and dark, it’ll be easy to roll into a ball on the couch instead of exercising. I recommend joining a gym before the New Year to get a head start. Implementing a type of sauna or steam with an exercise routine can support the body’s natural detoxification process. Trying something fun like kickboxing or indoor swimming can keep you fit indoors year-round.
Fall is a wonderful time of year to revisit health and fitness goals. With the days getting shorter, the evening is a perfect time to try new cooking recipes or attend an exercise class at the gym. I have some easy wellness tips for the fall weather that will be helpful to maintain a healthy lifestyle.
- Protect yourself and others by getting an annual flu vaccination.
- Follow the three C’s: clean your hands, cover your sneeze or cough by using a tissue & contain your germs by staying home when you’re sick.
- Get moving! Add exercise into your day by parking farther from entrance doors or taking the stairs instead of the elevator.
- Eat a balanced diet of lean meats, fruits, vegetables, grains and dairy.
- Quit smoking. Smoking is the leading preventable cause of death in the U.S.
- Remember safety! Buckle up. Wear a helmet when biking and remember to change the batteries in smoke detectors at least once a year.
- Find ways to reduce stress.
- Sleep at least eight hours a night.
- Stay involved in your health by getting regular exams, seeking preventive treatment and keeping immunizations updated.
- Be happy! Make time for yourself.
Get connected (or reconnect) with family and friends.
