Delta is ditching change fees.
On August 31, on the heels of United’s elimination of change fees, Delta announced that they too would be making travel with them more flexible and allowing travelers to change and cancel their travel plans with no extra fees.
This change is effective immediately and applies to travel to the domestic U.S., Puerto Rico and U.S. Virgin Islands in Delta’s First Class, Delta Premium Select, Delta Comfort+ and Main Cabin, with the exception of Basic Economy tickets.
“We’ve said before that we need to approach flexibility differently than this industry has in the past, and today’s announcement builds on that promise to ensure we’re offering industry-leading flexibility, space and care to our customers,” said Delta CEO Ed Bastian.
According to an August 31 press release, Delta first shared their plans to “overhaul its change fee structure” at its Investor Day in December 2019 and at the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic in March 2020, implemented a waiver to eliminate change fees.
