Following last week’s total solar eclipse, many people are already buzzing about the next iteration of the rare celestial event which will take place on August 12, 2026. Among those making plans for the big day is luxury cruise line Cunard which recently announced that three of its ships — flagship Queen Mary 2, Queen Victoria and Queen Anne — will be positioned in bucket list-worthy destinations directly along the path of totality.
The 2026 solar eclipse will be Europe’s first in 27 years, and destinations like Greenland, Iceland and Spain will have a front-row seat to the big show. Regarding Cunard’s sailings, Queen Mary 2 will embark on a 14-night voyage through Norway and Iceland from August 4 - 18, 2026 where guests will have the opportunity to witness the solar eclipse from Reykjavik, Iceland on the evening of August 12. Travelers aboard Queen Anne will explore Spain and France on a 7-night itinerary from August 9 - 16, 2026 where they’ll watch the eclipse from the deck in a charming Spanish harbor. And finally, those aboard Queen Victoria will enjoy a seven-night sailing from August 10 - 17, 2026 in the Western Mediterranean where they’ll explore the historic town of Tarragona before re-boarding and searching for the perfect spot to view the phenomena.
“Watching a total solar eclipse from sea is an utterly unique and very rare experience,” said Katie McAlister, president of Cunard. “Cunard is therefore thrilled to offer three remarkable voyages positioned along the path of the 2026 eclipse — two in the Mediterranean and one in Iceland — which will give guests the chance to witness this extraordinary phenomenon from the water, an unforgettable moment observed from the luxurious vantage point of our Queens.”
For those interested in the stars, Cunard has a variety of voyages and venues to choose from throughout the year. In the winter, travelers can take advantage of the brand’s selection of Arctic Circle sailings where on-board experts give special talks as passengers search the skies for the illusive Northern Lights. Alternatively, those sailing on Queen Mary 2 can snag a seat at the first planetarium at sea which offers daily shows and talks, an especially popular activity during Transatlantic Crossing sea days.
