Despite turning 30 this year, it was just 6 years ago (2013) that Southwest Vacations began to add international destinations, including Mexico and the Caribbean, into our vacation packages. It was an important milestone for our company as we're proud to deliver a diversity of travel experiences to our customers. Today, Southwest Vacations features 15 international vacation spots throughout Mexico, the Caribbean and Central America. (Click here to see the full list of our destinations)

To celebrate Southwest Vacations’ international footprint on our 30th anniversary, we want to share with you our list of nine cool things to experience when visiting Mexico and the Caribbean this year.

1. Swim with Whale Sharks – Cancun, Mexico

Swimming alongside whale sharks is one of the ultimate bucket-list experiences. Remember to keep a respectful distance from the gentle giants and follow all the rules!

2. Visit Mayan Ruins - Riviera Maya, Mexico

Take a step back in time and explore the awe-inspiring Mayan empire, one of the most advanced and sophisticated cultures in the Western Hemisphere before the arrival of European explorers. Several archaeological sites to visit include Chichen Itza, Tulum, Coba, and Uxmal.

3. San José del Cabo Art Walk - Los Cabos, Mexico

On Thursday evenings in high season (November to June), San José shows off its creative side with an art walk. Local art galleries take part in the event by organizing lecture, wine evenings, meet and greets and live music for visitors to enjoy.

4. See, Dive and Swim in the Luminous Lagoon - Jamaica

The Luminous Lagoon is one of Jamaica's best-kept secrets. The 'glow in the dark' effect of the lagoon comes from the microorganisms that fill the waters, giving off a luminous effect.

5. Play a Round of Golf at a Championship Course Designed by a Famous Architect – Punta Cana

Enjoy the spectacular scenery while golfing, and world-class courses designed by golfing greats like Jack Nicklaus, Pete Dye, and others.

6. Swim with Stingrays - Cayman Islands

Stingray City is Grand Cayman's most popular attraction for snorkelers and non-swimmers. Enjoy this unique experience of touching and feeding a stingray, together with snorkeling amongst magnificent coral reefs and colorful tropical fish.

7. Island Hopping – Puerto Rico

From Fajardo to Icacos to Palomintos, you'll discover a wonderful experience getting between the islands and seeing them in their unaffected beauty.

8. Explore Bahamian Culinary Scene - Nassau, Bahamas

Escape the crowds and venture into some of the city's hidden spots where you can enjoy the beautiful Old Nassau, soak up the city's rich culture, and savor some of its best cuisine.

9. Take an Instagram-worthy shot with the Divi-Divi Tree – Aruba

A journey wouldn't be complete without some amazing photograph to share with the world – and one of the most recognizable photographs of the Bahamas is Divi-Divi Tree at Eagle Beach. Doesn't it look a little like a giant bonsai set in the Caribbean?
