Dolphins are friendly, goofy animals that love to interact with people. And what better way to shake hands or hug a dolphin than on an excursion in Mexico? Here are just five of the many ways you can get in the water for some flippery fun – and even some kisses – with dolphins in Cancun, Cozumel and Puerto Vallarta.

  1. Dolphin Encounter at Maroma – Cancun

Located just a ten-minute drive away from Playa del Carmen, this dolphin experience is a great choice for a busy family on vacation. Not only is it designed for all ages, it’s also designed to just be 30 minutes long, fitting perfectly into an action-packed itinerary. It’s also offered four times a day, giving families lots of options. Play a game, get a kiss or a handshake from these friendly creatures. Whatever you choose, it’ll be a special experience for all.

  2. Supreme Delphinus Experience – Riviera Maya

Take your dolphin experience to the max at Delphinus Riviera Maya habitat, an animal wellness program for aquatic mammal research. You’ll get in the water (it’s not too deep) and dolphins will jump and do tricks around you. You can even have a dolphin do a foot-push on you, propelling you in the water! You’ll also learn about dolphins from a trainer for an experience that will last just under one hour.

  3. Dolphinclusive Premium in Xel-ha – Cancun

Xel-Ha is the largest natural aquarium in the world, so what better place to hang out with some dolphins than this eco-park? This excursion not only gives you the opportunity to swim, snorkel and get up close and personal with dolphins, you’ll also get full access to the entire Xel-Ha park. The dolphin program will teach you all about the dolphins' natural environment, what they eat and how they interact, as well as filling you in on the tricks you'll get to perform with your new ocean pals.

  4. Dive with Dolphins in Cozumel Tour – Cozumel

Combine your love of diving with dolphins. This experience begins at Chankanaab National Park, set on an incredibly beautiful beach and lagoon leading to a natural coral barrier reef, just off the coast of Cozumel. You’ll put on your scuba gear and once in the water, you’ll be able to drive to depths of 25 feet, with friendly and curious dolphins around you. Outside of the water, explore the park’s botanical gardens, Mayan house, pre-Hispanic archaeological replicas, crocodile exhibition, or enjoy a manatee or sea lion show (all included with your park entry). Or simply relax on the beach with some Mexican fare and drinks from the park's restaurants and snack bars.

  5. Dolphin Royal Swim at Aquaventuras Park – Puerto Vallarta

Feel like a Disney princess when you’re in the water with the dolphins at Aquaventura Park as you hold on to their dorsal fins and they pull you through the water. Magical! After you spend a fun-filled hour with the dolphins, you have full admission to the Aquaventura Park to enjoy the water slides, the lazy river, zip line and climbing wall. You’ll surely need some relaxing beach time after this day of adventure when you get back to the resort.
