Can you imagine taking a vacation without your phone? It wasn’t too long ago that this was normal, but times have rapidly changed. Now cellphones are basically a travel companion. They house music, podcasts and books; they have your boarding pass ready to go; they pull up a nearby Uber driver when you arrive at your destination. These handy devices help make traveling a breeze.

And of course, all these helpful tools and resources come in the form of applications. There are apps that connect, such as Travello and Wheelmap, and apps to help get travelers outdoors, like iNaturalist and AllTrails. When it comes to group trips, there are several apps designed to help group travelers too. Check out these five apps for groups.

Troupe

Are you usually the planner of the group? The one to take charge and make decisions? It’s not an easy task when your travel companions’ desires don’t always line up. When it comes to deciding on dates, destinations and activities, Troupe can help narrow down the initial details. You can ditch the email chains and text threads and instead house all your insights conveniently in the Troupe app. You can set up polls to help narrow down options, and once you have the winners, you can contact your favorite travel advisor to get the vacation on the books.

TripIt

Once your trip is booked, it doesn’t always mean you have one final confirmation. Between flights, rental cars, accommodations and excursions, there might be several reservations floating around. Sending these over to TripIt can help keep them in one concise, easy-to-access place. The app organizes your travel arrangements. The itinerary can then be shared, and each person in the group can access it whenever they’d like.

Tricount

Another must-have app for traveling with a group is Tricount. If you’ve ever traveled with a larger group and needed to split expenses along the way, you’re well aware that it can sometimes turn into a headache. With Tricount, travelers can easily track expenses throughout the vacation. They just enter the charges as they happen, and at the end of the trip, the app does the math and lets each group member know what they owe and who they owe it to.

Google My Maps

All phone users are most likely familiar with Google Maps for directions, but did you know you can create custom maps that pinpoint restaurants and attractions you want to hit while on your next trip? With Google My Maps, users can personalize maps to add places they want to go. Best of all, these maps can be shared with travel companions in order to collaborate on the trip. If you’re feeling extra friendly, you can share your map publicly and let others use your itinerary for their own trip.

Photo Sharing

There’s an app for everything, and when it comes to photo sharing, there are an endless amount of options. Sure, you can easily send photos back and forth through texting, Facebook Messenger and AirDrop. But when there are several people involved, sometimes compiling the vacation photos in an app is the easiest way to go. Since there are so many options, instead of suggesting just one app, here is The Travel Team’s complete list of photo sharing apps. Take your pick!
