There’s more to the Caribbean than sun and sand – the cuisines of the islands really cannot be missed. Here are four ways travelers can get an authentic taste of the Caribbean, along with a little history and sightseeing, too.

1. Santo Domingo Tour in the Dominican Republic

This tour takes you to the fascinating city of Santo Domingo. Take a walk through colonial history, shop in the colorful boutiques of Columbus Plaza and indulge in an authentic meal at a traditional restaurant in Santo Domingo.

2. Puerto Plata City Tour & Cable Car in the Dominican Republic

Start your excursion off right – at a rum factory! After imbibing at the famous Brugal & Co., you’ll visit the Amber Museum, ride a cable car up Pico Isabel de Torres Mountain, then visit the Fortaleza San Felipe fortress. It all ends with a delicious Dominican lunch and a visit to a chocolate factory, where you'll look at artisans turning the cacao into the island's delectable chocolate.

3. Spirit of Reggae - Bob Marley Experience in Jamaica

A majority of this excursion focuses on reggae icon Bob Marley, and you’re in Jamaica so you should spend some time with the king of reggae! After visiting Bob’s birthplace, the village of Nine Mile, and his childhood home (which is now a museum), you’ll visit one of Jamaica's Revival Churches and finish off the day with some traditional Jamaican jerk. Delish.

4. Local Culture Tour in the Bahamas

This quick, 3-hour excursion in Nassau explores the island’s Bohemian culture with a visit to a Junkanoo shack to see how the costumes for the cultural festival are made. Then you’ll stop by a local chocolate factory, the National Heritage Museum and a local rum distillery for some of that iconic Caribbean rum.
