We are still embarking on this new year, 2022. This is the time when so many set new goals, make resolutions for change and feel recharged and determined as they bound into a promise of newness or betterment in their lives. As I reflect on 2021, I think about how we were all so excited about putting 2020 behind us, only to find that 2021 was also a trying year in many ways. Maybe it’s the weariness of the last two years or maybe it’s a result of how the world has become, but I have decided on what I will focus on at the beginning of this year.
Travel
This may be a strange thing to feel is necessary, but I look back on 2021 and even years before and the most memorable moments that gave me the greatest joy was traveling. I love to travel to experience different cultures, to escape the race that is everyday life and to find time to relax and rejuvenate. Even with many of the new protocols in place, I find it all very acceptable to be able to get to my destination. Although most of my travels are for work, they still fill my cup and give me such enjoyment to experience climates, scenery, culinary, people and accommodations that I don’t enjoy daily. I think everyone should travel every year.
Hope
I have always been the gal that people would chastise as I always thought everything would be alright and work out just fine. I believed there was a silver lining in each cloud. I have begun to struggle with this in the last many months. There have been too many setbacks for too many people everywhere and especially close to me. I always eventually come back to the notion that I can hope for things to get better. We must have hope. We must look for the glimmers of light that bring us back to being hopeful.
Be Kind
Doesn’t it feel good when someone is kind to you? It feels even better to me to see the result when I can be kind to those around me. I see this message everywhere now. “In a world where you can be anything, be kind.” “Be kind even on your bad days.” “It costs nothing to be kind.” “Sometimes miracles are just good people with kind hearts.” “The whole world is short staffed. Be kind to those that showed up!” I love feeling the joy that it gives others when I see people being kind, to feel the kindness and to spread the kindness. It’s essential.
I do have more ideas of what essentials there are for a positive year, but perhaps those will come in another article. I am always curious to hear what your thoughts are and what you are focusing on this year, please share in the comments.
