Home to many of Mexico's best hotels and resorts, Riviera Maya offers a Mexican experience like no other. From miles of soft, sandy beaches to breathtaking ancient ruins, your clients will surely have an unforgettable adventure. And to help you ensure they will, here are 12 things your fellow VAX agents recommend when booking the ultimate Riviera Maya vacation.

  1. Really research what area of Riviera Maya you are interested in staying. Maroma has beautiful, pristine beaches but Tulum offers shorter transportation for an amazing ruins experience. Really think about whether you plan to stay on your resort the entire time or adventure out and see everything Riviera Maya has to offer.

  2. Riviera Maya is paradise in its own right. Beautiful beaches, water, great resorts and away from the party scene yet you can still have fun at any resort in Riviera Maya. It's your paradise without having to travel too far from the United States. Make sure you stay longer than 4 days!
Megan T., Palm Sky Travels, LLC in Pennsylvania

  3. Río Secreto has proven to be one of the most active and best water activities in Riviera Maya. The underground caves are amazing and very unique!
Fabi V., International Tours in Texas

  4. Go to Playa del Carmen, check out the restaurants and walk down to the beach area. Make sure to go to one of the Mayan ruins and even visit a cenote!
Cindy B., Just Cruises & Vacations in New Hampshire

  5. If you are interested in booking a tour, I recommend booking before you go or as soon as you get there (as popular tours do sell out). I highly recommend a tour of the ruins of Tulum! Bring your bathing suit, towel and sunscreen, as there is a ladder you can climb down to the private beach! It's an amazing view and you'll get goosebumps learning all about the Mayan culture.
Jennifer Q., Time Off Travel n in New Hampshire

  6. Make sure your clients go diving, snorkeling and even do a private Jeep excursion. With these activities, your clients will get more knowledge regarding the nature of Mexico and truly enjoy their vacation.
Irina S., Irina's Travel in New York

  7. There are many tour options available from this area. I recommend the tour: Xcaret Plus – it has it all! It has underground rivers, exotic animals, coral reefs to explore, a Mexican folklore show and food to enjoy.
Diana J., KM Travel in Maryland

  8. I always encourage my clients to see the ruins on their first time there. The next time they go, I suggest they try a snorkeling or underground cave tour – these activities speak to all ages and make great memories for a multigenerational group, it is much more than a beach trip!
Mark O., Ohan Travel in Maryland

  9. I recommend a reef adventure! Go sailing on a catamaran to visit a coral reef and enjoy an incredible snorkeling experience! The fish are beautiful and there are so many different varieties – it's like swimming in a real life aquarium!
Sue L., Bursch Travel in Minnesota

  10. Take time to visit outside the resorts to get a feel for the town. You may also get some good buys off the resort campus. The resort fiesta is a lot of fun for all ages that anyone can enjoy even if you are not into water sports or boating. They also have great vendors.
Leslie P., Decadent Travels in Virginia

  11. A trip to the Riviera Maya can't be complete without a visit to 1,500-year-old Nohoch Mul, the Yucatán's tallest pyramid. Also, pay a visit to Chichen Itza, which was a large pre-Columbian city built by the Maya Civilization.
Jemeka B., T&J Travel in North Carolina

  12. There is something for everyone in Riviera Maya. Small boutiques, adults-only, family and even infant- friendly resorts and large party resorts. Riviera Maya is great for clients going on a honeymoon, destination wedding, beach trip or a weekend getaway. It is the place to be for golf enthusiasts, spa lovers, snorkelers, divers, and clients who love culture and history.
